CARUARU - PERNAMBUCO

Considered by UNESCO "the greatest center of figurative art of the Americas", Caruaru is located in the Agreste (a distant rural area) of Pernambuco, some 130 km far from Recife. In our itinerary, an unforgettable visit to the fair of handicrafts, which prospers works in pottery, weaving, embroidery, wood, straw, leather, fabrics and other interesting materials; at Alto do Moura (the Moura Heights), residence and workshop of several artists and a place where it is located the House of Master Vitalino a museum for preserving the memory of the precursor of the clay dolls in Pernambuco, and the Vila do Forró, a scenographic space that re-creates a small village in the interior where the animation reigns all over the month of June.

Please observe that the way to Caruaru is a special attraction, exhibiting a beautiful scenery and offering a vision of other tourist spots of Pernambuco, such as the town of Gravatá, a small city in the mountains with buildings in alpine style and excellent climate, and Bezerros (Calves), known for its Carnival of Papangus (People in disguise) and by rich woodcuts.

Optional: New Jerusalem is the largest outdoor theater in the world, with an area of 70 square meters, equivalent to one third of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus. The area, surrounded by walls of seventy towers, shelters palaces, arruados (small streets), gardens and other stage sets of the Drama da Paixão (the Passion of Jesus), staged in the city during the Holy Week. New Jerusalem is located 50 kilometers from Caruaru.
